The case was registered as Hajipur Rail Police Station Case No. 158/2025 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a written complaint by Sumit Kumar, a nomadic labourer. According to him, he and his wife were sleeping with their three children near the lift at the southern end of Platform 1 on the night of October 3. When they awoke around 5:50 a.m. the next morning, their son, Mohammad Fahim alias Raja Babu, had disappeared.
Given the gravity of the case, police formed an SIT and initiated simultaneous technical and ground-level inquiries. CCTV footage from the station first revealed the involvement of an unidentified man and woman seen moving near the family before the child vanished. Investigators then extracted and analysed dump data from devices active at the site during the relevant timeframe. Matching this with CDR, SDR and OSINT-based intelligence led them to the first breakthrough: the identification of Arjun Kumar of Vidyapur in Vaishali.
Further analysis of associated numbers helped trace a second suspect, Kiran Devi of Chaknour in Vaishali, and both were apprehended. Their interrogation produced crucial leads, ultimately pointing investigators toward another intermediary, Sonu Kumar Singh of Rahimapur, Vidyapur. He too was arrested. Sonu reportedly confessed that he had been instructed to acquire the child by Dr. Avinash Kumar of Patory, Samastipur, along with his associate Munni Kumari of Chaksaho. Sonu claimed he had paid Arjun ₹1,20,000 as part of a larger ₹3,50,000 deal orchestrated on behalf of the doctor, adding that he himself had received ₹1,30,000 for facilitating the abduction.
Police soon located the child at a residence in Chaksaho, Samastipur, where he had allegedly been handed over to a childless couple—Anil Kumar Sah and his wife, Gudiya Devi—who believed they were legally acquiring a child. Both were arrested alongside Munni Kumari. According to investigators, payments had been made to Dr. Avinash through UPI and cash transfers arranged by the couple.
In total, six individuals were arrested: Anil Kumar Sah, Gudiya Devi, Munni Kumari, Arjun Kumar, Sonu Kumar Singh and Kiran Devi. Officers also recovered two mobile phones, clothing suspected to be linked to the incident, and most importantly, the abducted child, who was safely reunited with authorities.
The SIT included officers from the Hajipur Rail Police, DIU, and the Sonpur crime unit, working in close coordination. Despite the progress, the alleged mastermind, Dr. Avinash Kumar of Patory, is still at large, and a search operation is ongoing.
The case has heightened concerns over organised child trafficking networks exploiting vulnerable families at transit locations like railway stations. Police say the investigation remains active, with further arrests likely as they continue to trace financial trails and digital evidence linked to the accused.
